JPs Contracting recently completed their largest industrial construction project to date: the renovation of a 270,000-square-foot former US steel mill located the heart of McKeesport, PA. JPs Contracting worked with the Regional Industrial Development Corporation (RIDC) to transform the Industrial Center of McKeesport.
The JPs team subdivided the space, which features 41-foot tall demising walls from floor to roof deck. The 28,000-square-foot tenant space now features 24-foot high bay storage shelving, two twenty-ton overhead cranes, and impressive in-rack sprinkler systems, which are the true stars of this project. Because fire in warehouse-type facilities with rack storage can become very large and difficult to control in a short amount of time, this type of space presented a very complex fire protection problem. Our team worked with design specialists and two engineering firms on this unique sprinkler system in order for it to meet the strict fire protection standards of the tenant, the landlord, the municipality, and the state.
We also spearheaded the granite polishing and ADA-compliant restrooms. The new tenant is expected to begin full operations in the near future.
